What Drove the Results

Adjusted EPS of $2.09 came in $0.01 below the $2.10 analyst consensus, a miss of 0.6%. Revenue of $4,415.4 million was reported against the prior year's $4,025.2 million, with no consensus revenue estimate available for a direct comparison. The company's GAAP net income of $534.9 million grew only 2.0% year over year, well below the 9.2% growth in adjusted net income of $589.6 million, reflecting the impact of special gains and charges that weighed on the reported figures.

Pricing improved to 4% in the quarter, reflecting early benefits from Ecolab's energy surcharge implementation, which the company said helped offset rising commodity costs. Reported volume grew 1%, with CEO Christophe Beck noting a nearly 1% headwind from customer operations disrupted by the conflict in the Middle East. Adjusted gross margin declined 60 basis points, though the company attributed the entirety of that decline to the Ovivo Electronics acquisition; excluding that impact, organic gross margin was stable.

The Global Water segment reported fixed-currency sales growth of 10%, with 6 percentage points attributable to the Ovivo Electronics acquisition and 4 points from organic growth. Global Institutional & Specialty delivered fixed-currency and organic sales growth of 4%, with operating income margin expanding 50 basis points to 24.1%. Ecolab Digital sales grew 27% to $121 million. The recently closed CoolIT acquisition, which extends Ecolab's presence in AI infrastructure cooling, reported pre-acquisition sales growth of more than 100% in the first half of 2026.

Raised 2026 Outlook

Ecolab lifted its full-year 2026 adjusted diluted EPS guidance to $8.05 to $8.25, representing growth of 7% to 10%, from a prior range of $8.03 to $8.23. For the third quarter of 2026, the company expects adjusted diluted EPS of $2.13 to $2.23, representing growth of 3% to 8%. The company noted these ranges reflect strong underlying performance partially offset by non-cash amortization and financing costs from the CoolIT acquisition. Total pricing in the second half is expected to be in the 5% to 6% range. The Global High-Tech platform is now approaching $1.5 billion in annualized sales and is targeted to reach $4 billion by 2030 with operating income margins of 25%.

Wall Street View

Analyst consensus on Ecolab heading into the print was broadly constructive, with the majority of covering analysts carrying Buy-equivalent ratings. The raised guidance range, while narrow relative to the prior outlook, confirms management's view that accelerating pricing will more than offset commodity cost pressures in the back half of the year.

Investor Takeaway

The Q2 report confirms that Ecolab's pricing recovery is taking hold, with the energy surcharge contributing to a 4% pricing rate that management expects to expand to 5% to 6% in the second half. The CoolIT acquisition introduces near-term earnings dilution via non-cash amortization and financing costs, but the platform's triple-digit pre-acquisition revenue growth trajectory positions the Global High-Tech segment as an increasingly material contributor to Ecolab's long-term sales algorithm.
