Adjusted EPS of $1.95 beat the prior year by 10%, but GAAP operating income dipped 0.6% as catalyst volumes weighed on Process Automation margins.

Honeywell Technologies (NASDAQ: HON) reported Q2 2026 results on July 23, 2026, its first earnings release as a standalone automation company following the June 29 spin-off of Honeywell Aerospace (NASDAQ: HONA). Revenue for the Honeywell Technologies standalone entity rose 3.4% year over year to $5.187 billion, while adjusted EPS of $1.95 improved 10.2% from $1.77 in the prior-year period. The company also raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance range to $8.05-$8.35, up from $7.90-$8.30 previously.

Q2 2026 Results

  • Revenue: $5.187 billion, up 3.4% reported and 4% organically year over year, compared to $5.018 billion in Q2 2025.
  • Adjusted EPS: $1.95, up 10.2% from $1.77 in Q2 2025; GAAP EPS of $16.65 includes a one-time gain related to the deconsolidation of Quantinuum.
  • Segment profit (adjusted operating income): $985 million, up 9.0% year over year, with segment margin expanding 100 basis points to 19.0%.
  • GAAP operating income: $662 million, down 0.6% from $666 million in Q2 2025, with GAAP operating margin contracting 50 basis points to 12.8%.
  • Free cash flow: $456 million for the quarter, up from $114 million in Q2 2025; operating cash flow reached $563 million versus $187 million in the prior-year period.

What Drove the Results

The divergence between segment profit growth of 9.0% and the 0.6% decline in GAAP operating income reflects unallocated corporate and restructuring costs that are excluded from the segment-level figures. Within the segments, the primary drag came from Process Automation and Technology, where segment profit fell to $371 million from $386 million, with segment margin contracting 180 basis points to 22.1%. The press release attributes this to lower catalyst volumes and unfavorable product mix, as higher catalyst shipments in the prior-year period created a difficult comparison. Aftermarket sales in the segment declined 6% organically.

Building Automation was the standout performer, with segment profit rising 13.2% year over year to $542 million and segment margin expanding 90 basis points to 27.1%, driven by 9% organic sales growth, volume leverage, and pricing. Orders in the segment grew 13%, led by data center and hospitality verticals. Industrial Automation segment margin also expanded 90 basis points to 17.2%, with 4% organic sales growth led by utilities projects and warehouse backlog conversion.

Updated Full-Year 2026 Guidance

Management raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $8.05-$8.35, implying 25%-29% growth year over year, up from the prior range of $7.90-$8.30. Full-year sales guidance was revised to $19.8 billion-$20.0 billion, with organic growth now expected at 3%-4% for the full year and 4%-6% in the second half. Segment margin guidance was lifted to 20.1%-20.5%, representing expansion of 250-290 basis points year over year. Operating cash flow is expected at approximately $2.1 billion and free cash flow at approximately $2.0 billion. The updated guidance incorporates the acquisition of Johnson Matthey's Catalyst Technologies business, which closed on July 17, 2026, and expected divestitures of the Productivity Solutions and Services and Warehouse and Workflow Solutions businesses by early August.

Wall Street View

The quarterly earnings data shows adjusted EPS of $1.95 versus a consensus estimate of $4.86. The significant gap reflects the structural change in how Honeywell Technologies reports following the aerospace spin-off: the standalone automation entity's adjusted EPS is not directly comparable to prior consensus figures that were built around the combined company. CEO Vimal Kapur cited 100 basis points of segment margin expansion and double-digit adjusted earnings growth as evidence of the transformation's early benefits.

Investor Takeaway

The first standalone quarter for Honeywell Technologies shows that Building Automation's 27.1% segment margin and 13% order growth provide a durable offset to near-term softness in Process Automation, where catalyst volume headwinds appear cyclical rather than structural given the 24% order growth in LNG. The raised full-year adjusted EPS floor of $8.05, combined with free cash flow of approximately $2.0 billion, gives investors a cleaner financial baseline now that the aerospace business has been separated, and the pending PSS and WWS divestitures will further sharpen the company's focus on its three remaining automation segments.
