What Drove the Results
Adjusted EPS of $2.76 beat the consensus estimate by 5.9%, and revenue of $3.18 billion came in 0.6% above Wall Street's full-year midpoint projection after Wabtec raised its guidance. The Freight segment, which generated net sales of $2.24 billion (up 16.9% year over year), was propelled by a 35.0% increase in equipment sales from higher locomotive deliveries and an 88.5% jump in digital sales driven by recent acquisitions, partly offset by a 4.2% decline in services sales from lower modernization deliveries. Transit segment sales reached $936 million, up 18.9% year over year, with adjusted operating margin expanding 2.5 percentage points to 17.7%, benefiting from the Dellner Couplers acquisition, higher OEM and aftermarket volumes, and favorable foreign currency translation.
The 41.7% surge in multi-year backlog to $30.93 billion is the most structurally significant signal in the quarter. The 12-month backlog alone stands at $9.14 billion, $930 million above the prior-year period, providing concrete near-term revenue visibility. Cash generation was a standout as well: the $441 million in operating cash flow more than doubled year over year, supported by higher net income and favorable working capital movements. During the quarter, Wabtec repurchased $215 million of its own shares and paid $53 million in dividends, ending the period with $2.02 billion in total available liquidity.
Updated 2026 Guidance
Wabtec raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance range to $12.30 billion to $12.60 billion, lifting the midpoint by $110 million, implying approximately 11.5% growth versus the prior year. Adjusted EPS guidance for the full year was increased to a range of $10.60 to $10.90, raising the midpoint by $0.30, representing approximately 19.9% growth versus 2025. The new revenue midpoint of $12.45 billion came in 0.6% above the prior analyst consensus.
Wall Street View
Analyst sentiment on Wabtec heading into the report leaned constructive, with the majority of covering firms carrying Buy-equivalent ratings. Shares gained 2.20% on Tuesday, July 22, 2026, while the S&P 500 rose 0.83% on the same session.
Investor Takeaway
The combination of a top- and bottom-line beat, a $0.30 midpoint increase to full-year adjusted EPS guidance, and a 41.7% expansion in the multi-year backlog positions Wabtec with a more durable revenue foundation than a single-quarter result alone would suggest. Investors weighing the stock's forward trajectory should note that the backlog's growth is being driven in part by recently completed acquisitions, meaning integration execution will be a key variable in converting that pipeline into the margins the updated guidance implies.
