What Drove the Results

GAAP EPS of $3.17 beat the $2.95 consensus by $0.22, or 7.5%. Revenue of $1.35 billion grew 10.4% year over year. Organic sales growth of 9.7% reflected a 12.9% increase in the Engineered Solutions segment and 7.9% growth in the Service Center segment. Acquisitions and foreign currency translation contributed an additional 0.3% and 0.4%, respectively, to reported growth.

Operating income grew 17.9% year over year to $159.3 million, meaningfully outpacing revenue growth of 10.4%. Selling, distribution, and administrative expense grew 5.1% year over year, well below the revenue growth rate, creating the positive operating leverage that drove margin expansion. The Engineered Solutions segment EBITDA margin reached 15.1%, while the Service Center segment posted an EBITDA margin of 14.5%, up from 13.6% in the prior-year quarter.

For the full fiscal year ended June 30, 2026, net sales reached $5.0 billion, up 8.8% year over year, with net income of $414.5 million, or $10.95 per diluted share. Full-year EBITDA was $618.2 million, up 10.0% year over year. Full-year free cash flow was $460.5 million.

Guidance and Updated Targets

Applied introduced fiscal 2027 guidance calling for total sales growth of 4.0% to 6.5%, GAAP EPS of $11.65 to $12.15, and EBITDA margins of 12.5% to 12.8%. The company also raised its intermediate financial targets to $7 billion in sales and EBITDA margins of 14%, which it expects to achieve over the next five years. Management noted that Q1 fiscal 2027 organic sales are running approximately 7% above the prior-year period to date, indicating that top-line momentum has carried into the new fiscal year. Guidance incorporates uncertainty tied to geopolitical events, trade policy dynamics, and inflationary pressures, and does not assume contributions from future acquisitions or share buybacks.

Wall Street View

Analyst sentiment on AIT heading into the print leaned constructive, with the most recent consensus including ten Buy or Strong Buy ratings against three Hold ratings and no Sell recommendations. The fiscal 2027 guidance range for EPS of $11.65 to $12.15 provides a concrete benchmark against which Wall Street will calibrate forward estimates following the beat.

Investor Takeaway

The Q4 results confirm that Applied's operating leverage profile is functioning as intended: revenue growing at double digits while operating expense growth is held to roughly half that rate, driving meaningful margin expansion. With the company raising its intermediate sales target to $7 billion and EBITDA margin target to 14%, investors now have a longer-term financial framework against which to measure execution. The durability of that target will hinge on whether the 7% early organic growth rate in Q1 fiscal 2027 can be sustained as year-over-year comparisons become more demanding through the back half of the fiscal year.
