Record Q2 revenue of $11.5B grew 50% YoY as AMD's Data Center segment doubled, but Q3 guidance of ~$13B left some investors wanting more.
Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) reported record second-quarter revenue of $11.536 billion for the period ended June 27, 2026, a 50.1% increase year-over-year, as the company's Data Center segment more than doubled its contribution. GAAP diluted EPS reached $1.38, up from $0.54 in Q2 2025, while adjusted diluted EPS came in at $1.66, compared to $0.48 a year earlier.
Q2 2026 Financial Results
- Revenue: $11.536 billion, up 50.1% year-over-year from $7.685 billion in Q2 2025
- Data Center segment revenue: $6.7 billion, up 107% year-over-year, driven by AMD EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs
- GAAP operating income: $1.990 billion, compared to a loss of $134 million in Q2 2025; GAAP operating margin expanded 19 percentage points to 17%
- Adjusted operating income: $3.094 billion, up 245% year-over-year; adjusted operating margin expanded 15 percentage points to 27%
- GAAP net income: $2.297 billion; adjusted net income $2.760 billion
- Q3 2026 revenue guidance: approximately $13 billion, plus or minus $300 million, representing approximately 41% year-over-year growth and approximately 13% sequential growth
What Drove the Results
The Data Center segment at $6.7 billion represented 58% of total company revenue for the quarter, with the 107% year-over-year gain reflecting demand for both EPYC server CPUs and Instinct GPU accelerators. Client and Gaming segment revenue reached $3.8 billion, up 6% year-over-year; within that, Client revenue of $3.1 billion grew 23% year-over-year on Ryzen processor demand, while Gaming revenue of $779 million declined 31% year-over-year due to lower semi-custom revenue. Embedded segment revenue was $977 million, up 19% year-over-year.
The difference between GAAP and adjusted figures is material: GAAP gross profit was $6.203 billion (54% gross margin) while adjusted gross profit was $6.488 billion (56% gross margin), with the gap primarily reflecting $260 million in amortization of acquisition-related intangibles and $8 million in stock-based compensation. On the operating line, $503 million in stock-based compensation and $284 million in acquisition-related intangible amortization explain the bulk of the spread between GAAP operating income of $1.990 billion and adjusted operating income of $3.094 billion.
For Q3 2026, AMD guided for revenue of approximately $13 billion, plus or minus $300 million, with non-GAAP gross margin expected to remain at approximately 56%. The company stated it expects Data Center sales to accelerate in the second half of 2026.
Key Product and Partnership Announcements
During the quarter AMD launched several products with direct Data Center relevance. The company introduced the Instinct MI400 Series GPU family, including the MI455X for large-scale AI training and inference and the MI430X for HPC and sovereign AI workloads. AMD also launched Helios, described as a rackscale AI server solution, which it said is being deployed by Anthropic, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, and others. A strategic partnership with Anthropic was announced to deploy up to 2 gigawatts of MI450 Series GPUs in Helios racks, alongside a multiyear collaboration to optimize Instinct GPUs and ROCm software. AMD also expanded its collaboration with Microsoft to deploy Helios racks on Azure and add new EPYC CPU-powered VM series. Additionally, AMD acquired MEXT, adding AI-powered predictive memory technology.
On the CPU side, AMD introduced 6th Gen EPYC server processors and released ROCm.ai, a developer platform for building and optimizing AI workloads across AMD hardware.
Wall Street View
Analyst sentiment heading into the print was broadly constructive, though market reports indicated some investors viewed the Q3 revenue guidance midpoint as a modest beat rather than a significant upside surprise. AMD shares gained 7.00% in the regular session on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, while the S&P 500 rose 1.80%, before moving lower in extended trading as some market participants assessed whether the guidance sufficiently justified current valuation levels.
Investor Takeaway
AMD's record Q2 result confirms the Data Center business as the primary growth engine, with the segment now representing more than half of total revenue and still growing at triple-digit year-over-year rates. The Q3 guidance midpoint of $13 billion, if achieved, would extend the record-revenue streak for a third consecutive quarter. The more forward-looking question for investors is whether the Helios rackscale platform and the expanding roster of hyperscaler and AI-lab customers, including Anthropic, Microsoft, and OpenAI, can sustain Data Center acceleration through the back half of 2026 as AMD itself projected.
