Net income of $444M and EPS of $2.16 headline Loews Q2 2026 results, as Loews Hotels net income jumped 71% and CNA investment income offset softer underwriting.

Loews Corporation (NYSE: L) reported Q2 2026 net income of $444 million, or $2.16 per share, up 13.6% from $391 million, or $1.87 per share, in Q2 2025. The improvement was broad-based, with Loews Hotels posting a 71% net income increase and Boardwalk Pipelines contributing double-digit growth, while CNA Financial delivered higher net income despite softening underwriting margins.

Q2 2026 Results

  • Net income attributable to Loews: $444 million ($2.16 per share) vs. $391 million ($1.87 per share) in Q2 2025, a 13.6% year-over-year increase.
  • CNA Financial contribution: $294 million, up from $274 million in Q2 2025, as higher net investment income and lower investment losses more than offset a 2.4-point rise in the Property and Casualty combined ratio to 96.5%.
  • Boardwalk Pipelines contribution: $100 million, up from $88 million, with EBITDA rising to $279 million from $274 million, driven by higher contracting rates on gas transportation and higher product sales.
  • Loews Hotels contribution: $48 million, up 71% from $28 million, with adjusted EBITDA rising 26% to $137 million from $109 million.
  • Book value per share: $93.52 as of June 30, 2026, up from $90.71 at December 31, 2025; book value per share excluding AOCI rose to $99.27 from $95.89.

What Drove the Results

No consensus EPS estimate was available for the quarter, so a formal beat/miss comparison cannot be made. The 15.5% year-over-year increase in GAAP EPS to $2.16 reflects improvement across three of Loews's four reporting segments. Loews Hotels was the standout, with net income growth of 71% to $48 million, driven by higher average daily rates and increased occupied room nights, particularly at the Universal Orlando Resort properties and the Miami Beach Hotel following its renovation. Boardwalk Pipelines' $12 million net income improvement reflected higher contracting rates and recently completed growth projects, partially offset by higher operating expenses.

CNA Financial's underlying underwriting results were the primary area of pressure. The Property and Casualty underlying loss ratio rose 2.6 points to 64.1%, driven by higher loss cost trends and lower-than-expected rate in certain lines. Core income at CNA declined to $324 million from $335 million. However, net income attributable to Loews from CNA still rose to $294 million from $274 million, as higher net investment income from limited partnerships, common stocks, and a larger fixed income portfolio, combined with lower investment losses, more than compensated for the underwriting softness.

Loews repurchased 1.4 million shares during Q2 2026 for a total cost of $146 million, reducing shares outstanding to 204.4 million as of June 30, 2026, from 206.0 million at year-end 2025. The parent company held $4.4 billion in cash and investments against $1.8 billion of debt at quarter-end.

For the first six months of 2026, net income attributable to Loews reached $781 million, or $3.79 per share, compared with $761 million, or $3.61 per share, in the first half of 2025.

Wall Street View

Analyst consensus data with specific price targets is not available for Loews at this time. Shares closed at $116.25 on Monday, August 3, 2026, a gain of 0.21%, while the S&P 500 rose 1.42% on the same session.

Investor Takeaway

The Q2 2026 results highlight the value of Loews's diversified structure: Loews Hotels and Boardwalk Pipelines absorbed pressure from CNA's softening underwriting margins and delivered net income growth at the consolidated level. The CNA combined ratio trajectory, with the underlying loss ratio rising 2.6 points year-over-year and already elevated through the first half of 2026, represents the clearest near-term variable for investors to monitor in subsequent quarters.
