Adjusted EPS of $0.18 beat the -$0.17 consensus by a wide margin as revenue hit $80.8M, up 25.7% YoY, and Quantum eliminated all outstanding debt.

Quantum Corporation (NASDAQ: QMCO) returned to non-GAAP profitability for the first time since fiscal 2023, reporting adjusted EPS of $0.18 against a consensus estimate of -$0.17 for its fiscal first quarter ended June 30, 2026. Revenue of $80.8 million grew 25.7% year over year and exceeded the company's own guidance range of $75.0 million, plus or minus $2.0 million.

Q1 Fiscal 2027 Results

  • Revenue: $80.8 million vs. $64.3 million in Q1 2026, a 25.7% year-over-year increase
  • Adjusted EPS: $0.18, versus an adjusted loss per share of $1.58 in the prior-year quarter
  • GAAP gross margin: 39.3% of revenue, up from 35.3% in Q1 2026
  • Non-GAAP adjusted EBITDA: $8.0 million, versus negative $6.5 million a year earlier

What Drove the Results

Adjusted EPS of $0.18 beat the -$0.17 consensus estimate by $0.35. Revenue of $80.8 million also cleared the top end of guidance. The swing to non-GAAP profitability was driven by two concurrent factors: gross margin expanded 4.0 percentage points to 39.3%, and non-GAAP adjusted operating expenses declined by $4.9 million year over year to $25.1 million, pushing GAAP operating income to $5.0 million from a loss of $12.6 million in the prior-year period.

GAAP net loss of $155.3 million, or -$7.06 per share, diverges sharply from the adjusted result and is attributable entirely to one-time charges connected to the company's debt elimination: $129.7 million related to the fair value of convertible notes, $16.3 million for outstanding warrants, and $11.7 million in loss on debt extinguishment. The company ended the quarter with zero debt, compared to $104.3 million outstanding as of June 30, 2025, and total interest expense fell to $2.1 million from $6.5 million a year ago.

CEO Hugues Meyrath noted that the company's backlog grew to record levels, citing demand for tiered storage solutions as organizations manage data growth alongside power and cost constraints. He also highlighted multimillion-dollar deals secured in both APAC and the Americas during the quarter, while acknowledging that supply constraints continue to limit the company's ability to fully satisfy demand.

Guidance

For fiscal Q2 2027, Quantum guided for revenue of $82.0 million, plus or minus $2.0 million, against a prior analyst consensus of approximately $74.8 million. Non-GAAP adjusted basic net income per share is projected at $0.12, plus or minus $0.10, compared to a prior consensus estimate of -$0.03. The company also guided for non-GAAP adjusted EBITDA of $6.0 million, plus or minus $1.0 million, and non-GAAP adjusted operating expenses of $27.0 million, plus or minus $1.0 million.

Wall Street View

Analyst sentiment on QMCO leaned constructive heading into the print, with the most recent consensus showing six Buy-equivalent ratings and two Hold ratings. No specific analyst price-target actions were available in the source data following the earnings release.

Investor Takeaway

The Q1 result marks a meaningful inflection point: Quantum's operational structure, with gross margins now above 39% and non-GAAP operating expenses declining, has reached a configuration capable of generating positive adjusted earnings. The balance sheet reset, completed during the quarter, removes a structural risk that had weighed on the company for several years. The forward revenue guide of $82.0 million, plus or minus $2.0 million, implies continued year-over-year growth, and whether management can resolve supply constraints to convert its record backlog into recognized revenue is the clearest near-term variable for investors to monitor.
